Deluge 1.1.7 & 1.1.8 started blank

Post by Ubugenko »

Hi all !
I experienced serious trouble with deluge since version 1.1.7 : a few seconds after deluge started, it seems to freeze and the window stay white forvever. I try to wipe the deluge config folder without success. Then after 1.1.8 (getdeb) update, deluge worked again (somehow) before ... it happens again.
Finally I tried SVN version, and it works like a charm, but the window won't save last position and settings, and blocklist plugin don't work...
So, is there something i might try to get deluge to work again ?
Thanks in advance for your kind help !

Exactly same problem here with 1.1.8.
Maybe the problem is related with the getdeb package.

hmm... I don't think so, because i had the problem first with normal jaunty package (then I decide to use the getdeb one and at first, it works ...).
Right now i'm returning to SVN. After a svn update, it seems it works slightly better than 2 or 3 days ago (thanks devs !).
Edit : Even some of my settings are remembered (blocklist plugin is still not working, don't know why).
I was wrong. Not remembered at all. Strangely deluge-svn remembers my torrents but can't remembered my settings ...
At least, deluge is useable again ...

Same thing here, just a blank white screen--no toolbars, no torrents, just an empty frame. Jaunty x86, 32bit, from the PPA...you have to "force quit" the window for it to close. I've done a purge of all deluge related files and attempted to reinstall them from the PPA again only to get the same result. I haven't tried the getdeb method yet...

I had the same problem - it would always take 3-4 restarts before the interface loaded correctly.

This morning there was an update to libtorrent-rasterbar and the python libtorrent file. Now Deluge doesn't give me an interface no matter how many times I try to start it. I will try forcing the old versions back and see if that fixes it.

[update] I wasn't able to rollback to the previous versions of the files. I added the PPA back, updated, and there were two even newer versions of the files waiting. Upgrading to these has made no difference at all. Deluge is completely dead.

[update] I also tried replacing the getdeb files for Deluge with the newly added PPA ones. No change at all.

This really has been a week of hell for me and Deluge.

After the update that was delivered by Ubuntu today I have exactly the same problem as people above, it is just a blank window as in the screenshot provided by frijolie. I have done a couple of uninstalls and installs but still deluge wont work.
I have Ubuntu 9.04 32bit

I have managed to fix the problem by rolling back. I am certainly not an expert but I will post my instructions here and you can follow them if you need to.

1. Uninstall libtorrent-raster, python-libtorrent, and all deluge packages via Synaptic.
2. Remove the Deluge PPA from the third party listings in Synaptic and reload.
3. Go to GetDeb and grab the three debs for Deluge 1.1.8, saving to them to the Desktop or a new folder
4. copy libtorrent-rasterbar2_0.14.3-0ubuntu1~jaunty3_i386.deb and python-libtorrent_0.14.3-0ubuntu1~jaunty3_i386.deb from /var/cache/apt/archives/ to the Desktop or the folder where the deluge debs are
5. open a terminal in that location and use the following to install the five debs
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

*** I tried posting the debs for the two libtorrent files that screwed everything up but one of them exceeds the allowable attachment size. If you do not have them in your apt-cache let me know and I can email them to you. My cache still had all the versions of them, including the devil-versions from the PPA.

Good luck!
(I stress again the need for there to be a solid, stable, tried-and-tested version to be maintained here. Every new version of Deluge, even the "stable" one from the Download section is not tested nor stable.)

I think you are speaking about the same problem mentioned in this thread:

http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =7&t=20105

Start deluge via terminal to see the proper error message, but before delete the /.config/deluge folder.

Oh my ! I wish i came back earlier to see your post, as I solved my problem the same way you did but with a lot of troubles getting there !
Well, now i spent almost half of the day to be able to run deluge normally again, so I certainly add my vote to your
solid, stable, tried-and-tested version to be maintained here
.
You can find the python-libtorrent and libtorrent-rasterbar2 debs here :

Just wanted to point out that I managed to upgrade to 1.1.8 without the item 4 on your list... (Im using rasterbar 0.14.2 and python-libtorrent 0.14.2 also)
I removed everything, including dependencies, then installed 1.1.6 from ubuntu repos, then 1.1.8 from getdeb.

So the problem seems to be with libtorrent-rasterbar 0.14.4, right?
