Difference between network Ports and daemon port?

With utorrent I use a specific port number all the time. So in deluge I set both the outgoing and incoming port to that same number (utorrent's support collectively has Aspergers, so I'm jumping ship ), but I noticed there is a port number selection for the daemon as well. Not sure what the difference is between the Daemon and the other interface. First off, the port checker failed. Secondly, why does the Daemon have a port number of its own and why is there no port checker in that dialogue?

I tried searching for the answers, but I get "x words are too common and were ignored" on everything I tried. Might want to look into that.

The daemon port is where it listens for interface connections.. So when you start up your gtkui, you will be connecting to the daemon on that port. I wouldn't change it unless necessary.

Arrrg! Too late!

Like I said, I just assumed that I would select the port number I always use. I do not use Upnp for my ports because it often fails. Obviously, this program was developed by Linux guys and you kind of have to talk down to me a little I don't know what "daemon" is defined as, unless you're talking about Daemon tools, of course. Is it just the quick access to the torrent program in the tray? Or is there more to it than that? Thanks again.

Daemon is a program that runs in the background see wikipedia for more detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daemon_(computer_software).
They're called services in windows.
In deluge this means that the gui part is separate to the core part, so you can run the core part of deluge and still download/upload torrents without having to open the gui part (this is especially useful on servers).
To then be able to connect to this core part, the gui needs to know on which port is is running (that's what the daemon port is for).
Of course if you're running this in classic mode (gui + core aren't separated) then you don't need to touch that port.
The port you set in utorrent is the incoming port, so change that to what it normally is.
For the outgoing ports, leave them as random.
