Configure Deluge to Open Links in a Specific Browser (Vivaldi) on Kubuntu 24.04

Post by masterok »

Hello,

I have Kubuntu 24.04 installed and I'm using the Deluge 2.0.2dev torrent client. In Deluge, within the file information section, there is a link to the torrent. When I click on this link, it opens in the default web browser set for the system.

However, I would like these links to open in a different browser (Vivaldi) instead of the default one (Chrome). I prefer not to change the system's default browser because my wife and children use Chrome, and it is set as the default. I use Vivaldi to keep their links from cluttering my open tabs.

Is there a way to configure Deluge to open torrent links specifically in Vivaldi without changing the system-wide default browser?

Thank you for your assistance!

Sorry what exactly are you clicking in deluge and where? Why open already loaded torrent also, sorry don't use the regular gtk-ui much so probably just me confused here. You can change in general which default app open which file type e.g torrents and magnets, through xdg-open, and desktop files(custom if needed, e.g a script), and/or in certain browsers through own settings page, but I'm not fully sure on your question I'm affraid.

Edit: Sorry buddy for being dense - quick glance shows deluge in files tab just let's xdg-open use the default app for the file type for 'open file' context-menu, and for 'show file' context-menu then precedingly tries open with your default file-manager if available from dbus querying, before fallback to xdg-open. So in short, I'm affraid you would have to change default browser for this to work unfortunately.

I click the link in the Details tab, and it is usually found in the comments section. This link allows me to go directly to the page with the torrent file. Sometimes a torrent is updated (e.g., new episodes are added or an additional audio track), and the previous version may no longer be seeded. By following this link, I can check what’s been updated and, if needed, download the updated version.
I can simply copy the link and paste it into my browser, but it would be nice to just click on the link and have it open directly.

This works on my computer, however this might be due to the way links are being handled in your OS, I'm not really sure where you would try and change this or if there's something in python or GTK itself that determines how a clicking of a hyperlink is handled, but on Windows this works to launch my default browser.

Yes, the link opens in a standard browser, but I am asking if it is possible to choose a different browser?

It should use whatever the default handler for HTTP(s) links are, it doesn't specifically choose any browser in particular as far as I'm aware.
