Deluge 2.0 Beta 1

Post by Cas »

I have tentatively released a Beta 1 version of Deluge 2.0!

There are both Windows and MacOS packages.

Download

Ubuntu users can continue to use the: develop PPA but I am hoping to have a snap package soon.

Deluge 2.0 has been many years in development, the sheer amount of code needing fixed and updated along with catching up with libtorrent changes has made it a long road. As almost the sole developer at this stage it will be no easy task but in the next few months I do hope to get it released.

Here is a taster of what's to come:
  • New multi-user support.
  • Performance updates to handle thousands of torrents and faster loading times.
  • New Console UI which emulates GTK/Web UIs.
  • GTK UI improvements and additions.
  • Fully support latest libtorrent releases.
  • Language switching support.
  • Improved logging output.
I have a Patreon page for those who wish to contribute to my continued development of Deluge.

Thanks, Cas

This is a great news!
Just a question: right now it's possible to choose the priority of every single file inside the torrent, but not the torrent itself.
It will be possible to choose the priority of the torrent directly so I will have torrent priority -> torrent file priority?

Unfortunately this feature has recently been dropped by libtorrent so we cannot do that now.

Yeah I do understand. The following is from the libtorrent dev on mailing list:
arvid wrote:It's utility and implementation was questionable, it did not have a well
defined behavior nor any tests. All it did (iirc) was to scale the~
bandwidth quota assigned to peers based on the priority of the torrent they
belonged to. Keeping it seemed to cause more harm than benefit, since it
made the code more complex.

That's a real pity :( I was used to uTorrent where you could do it :/ I hope that they'll change theyr mind!
In any case I'll use deluge :) It's my favourite client since the webgui is by far the best!
