Could use a little help trying to understand something.

First off a big hello as it's my first post and then an even bigger thanks to the team.
I've been using Deluge for a couple of years now ever since I moved over fully to Linux.
In all that time I've never had any problems so I guess that's why it's my first time here.
There's a compliment in there somewhere.

Well I'm in a position now where I might need to use the webui.
According to my clock I think I've been trying to get my head around it for two and a half hours with no luck.
Basically what I'm finding is a lot of info but too dated (out of date) I think. Then some info seem to contradict other.
The tutorial on the Ubuntu forum I got into a mess with but it's the only one I could find which actually looked promising as in it's all in order of the steps you need to take.
I've reached a point some of you might be familiar with (can happen with anything where you have to read instructions) where you've read so much you know that anything else you read won't make any difference. It's just reached a point where I'm not getting anywhere. I felt it would be better to post and then sleep on it until tomorrow.
To give you some understanding of my noobness (for want of a better word) like I said I've been with Linux a few years. Started with Ubuntu, tried about 10 distros in between and now I'm back with Ubuntu.
But I started with the CP/M OS initially. I'm in my 40s and most of my early learning came from DOS so I'm fine with syntax and terminals. I'm a little slow on the uptake (old age partly) but after 20 plus years with PCs I've managed to retain one or two things but I've always had trouble understanding networks.
Hopefully I've just missed one of the tutorials that somebody can point me too. I think it was the wiki I really had trouble working out what section I needed.
At some point I hope to use webui from another PC but for now a tutorial to use webui on the same PC as the deluged daemon and the torrents themselves is what I'm after.
Thanks to anybody who has got this far and is prepared to have a little patience with me. I didn't use 'webui' in the thread's title as I thought people will just skip it. With all that's written about webui I'm sure it's actually not too hard to set up but my brain feels like it's reached a BSOD at the moment.

Did you read this wiki page: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/UserGuide/ThinClient ?

You would be following the Web UI section.

Just enable WebUI in the options.

Then you should be able to access it with http://localhost:8112

Hi there.
I haven't looked into this much since but even though it's only a forum I thought I'd better reply with something by now.
I'll have time to have a look at the weekend. But I think I forgot to say something in my post which could be important about the version number of Deluge I am currently using. It's the one from the repo of Debian stable at the moment which is old. But I didn't think it was so old until I checked. 0.5.9.3.
I tried adding the testing repo which has a later version. In Synaptic after choosing to install there were so many other things to install and knowing that adding totally different repos like that is a bad way to go I refused the downloads.
Can anyone advise me on the best way to install the latest Deluge in the safest way on a stable Debian? (without a complete reformat and new install of the next Debian)
As Debian 'froze' for their next release a couple of weeks ago hopefully the next 'stable' will be a later version of Deluge.
