how to change console colors?

Hello all
I just started using Deluge and on my system the console color scheme is really hard to read.
Is there any way to change it to a white-background, black-text setup?
browsing the python curses library it looks like one might be able to put an entry in console.conf but
(if I'm right) I don't see any samples on how to do it
