I've updated to Ubuntu 18.04 and now the issues gone. I think 16.04 can't have the correct version of python3-libtorrent

Maybe, just strange the PPAs have a 16.04 section regardless, but good you got it "work-arounded" at least.

Hello,

I had the same situation, and have upgraded to 18.04. now i have the correct libtorrent version
deluged: 1.3.15
libtorrent: 1.1.5.0

However when i try to upgrade deluge on my ubuntu i get the following error:

The following packages have been kept back:
deluge-common deluge-web deluged

When i try apt install deluged deluge-common deluge-web, i get the following error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
deluge-common : Depends: python3-mako but it is not going to be installed
Depends: python3-pil but it is not going to be installed
Depends: python3-rencode but it is not going to be installed
Depends: python3-setproctitle but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: python3-geoip but it is not going to be installed
deluge-web : Depends: python3-mako but it is not going to be installed

When i try to install any of the dependencies for example python3-mako i get the following error:
python3-mako : Depends: python3-markupsafe but it is not going to be installed

When i try to install python3-markupsafe i get the following:
python3-markupsafe : Depends: python3 (< 3.6) but 3.6.7-1~18.04 is to be installed

not quite sure how to get this one worked, i have searched and googled alot but couldn't find a solution, hopefully someone can help me to get upgraded.

What i figured out was, all the sources didn't get updated from Xenial to Bionic

So i had to replace the word Xenial by Bionic in the source file.

the file source.list located in /etc/apt

Also if you have any other sources in source.list.d folder you might need to check them as well.

Another thing to consider would be to upgrade the seedbed to 18.04. 16.04 is an old LTS release, but 18.04 is the newer LTS release that came out a couple of years ago.

I can confirm that Ubuntu 18.04 makes available python3-libtorrent 1.1.5.

I just upgraded to Deluge 2 on Debian 10, so the following should also work on Ubuntu.
Don't forget to backup your settings and torrent files!

First remove Deluge 1.3 and the old repository:

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

apt-get remove deluge
apt-add-repository http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ppa/ubuntu/ --remove
apt-get update
Just to make sure it's gone:

Code: Select all

add-apt-repository ppa:deluge-team/stable --remove
If you have trouble removing the repositories, see if you have additional .list files located in "/etc/apt/sources.list.d" and disable those manually.

Also make sure you have the correct release version listed in sources.list (bionic, xenial etc.).

Add the new Deluge 2.0 repository and install:

Code: Select all

apt-add-repository http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/stable/ubuntu/
apt-get update
apt-get install deluge
Cleanup with

Code: Select all

apt autoremove
apt clean
After the upgrade I had deluge-2.0.3, libtorrent 1.1.11.0 and Python 3.7.3 installed; the versions are probably different on Ubuntu.

Code: Select all

root@deb-vm:/etc/apt# apt-cache policy deluge
deluge:
  Installed: 2.0.3-2~201906121747~ubuntu16.04.1
  Candidate: 2.0.3-2~201906121747~ubuntu16.04.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.3-2~201906121747~ubuntu16.04.1 500
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/stable/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/stable/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1.3.15-2 500
        500 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main i386 Packages

Code: Select all

root@deb-vm:/etc/apt/sources.list.d# apt-cache policy libtorrent-rasterbar9
libtorrent-rasterbar9:
  Installed: 1.1.11-2
  Candidate: 1.1.11-2
  Version table:
 *** 1.1.11-2 500
        500 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Can't really say why libtorrent wouldn't update for you. Maybe it's because the old repository has it's own libtorrent included, which might have lead to inconsistencies with the Ubuntu version of libtorrent.

Anyway, hope that helps
