As I thought, a forwarded infringement complaint.

STOP what you are doing until you are behind a reliable proxy, VPN, or use a seedbox.

I use Torguard SOCKS5 proxy with Deluge and for seedbox I use seedbox.io (no Deluge there yet, but they say they are working on it).

I suggest not using free services. If you can't afford the few dollars per month to protect your anonymity, consider what it might cost you if one of these copyright holders decides to sue you. Xfinity will hand over your identity in a heartbeat if they get a court order. They might also suspend your service after a few warnings.

You will almost always take a speed hit when using a proxy or VPN. Whether or not it's enough of a hit to bother you is up to you. I have no speed complaints with any of the services I use when connecting to well seeded torrents.

You can get away with spending $0, but only if you have access to a private tracker.

How they know it's you who were downloading a torrent: on public trackers anyone can start downloading a torrent, and get a list of peers to connect to (with their IP addresses). Big movie companies hire specialists who specialist in grabbing random torrents from the internet, getting all it's peers and then sending letters to their ISPs. ISPs then are obligated to forward the letters to you.

Encryption on the other had, hides the type of traffic from your ISP. It was mainly introduced to fight throttling of p2p torrent traffic by ISPs. It does not hide your IP from the tracker though, and anyone who connects to the tracker will see your IP.

Private invite-only trackers will get rid of this problem. I haven't had a single letter sent to me in the past 4-5 years.

I use the VPN provider NordVPN and I've had no DMCA letters. Here's why I like them:

They're headquartered in Panama, have servers everywhere and keep no logs.
The tech support is excellent. Questions answered and lots of help.
How they maintain the speed with low friction is amazing. I just did a test on my equipment, and this was directly connected, no wifi. No VPN was 49 mbps and with the vpn latched on, it was 45 mbps.
Under 4 bucks a month and they have sales from time to time. Buy a couple years when they have a sale.

The content owners are coming after you and they can annoy you..
