Ahh, that sucks. I recently just switched and like it so far. My main reason for choosing this was the client/server setup. I like that better than using a webUI to control my desktop. On the other hand, I was using utorrent 2.2.1 so that had 0 chances of being updated.

Yea, first thing I would try is updating that. You could build it from the source code or maybe try the Ubuntu PPA. Not sure if that will work on Debian or not. The best thing to do would be build Deluge and libtorrent from the source codes, then you will have the newest versions of everything.
