A few small nuances

Post by tomm3h »

Hi all,

Just poking around the forums for the first time - I thought about opening a new ticket for one or two of these, but it appears that I can't anyway so no bother, they're probably only worth the forum post anyway.

1) I really love how the client's coming together in new releases, 0.5.4.1 has impressed me greatly - simple things like a 'pause all' button from the system tray, and individual torrent limits make all the difference!

2) When I try to test my opened port, the URL sent to Firefox is:

Code: Select all

file:///home/tom/%22http://www.deluge-torrent.org/test-port.php?port=12345%22
I can see what it should be, and once I've removed the cruft it all works fine, but maybe this wouldn't be obvious to all users? Particularly if Deluge is looking at being packaged with mainstream distributions, like Ubuntu.

3) Another default: the 'Open Containing Folder' command defaults to xdg-open, but I simply receive an error stating that the file cannot be found. I know this can be forced to a particular file browser in the Preferences, but as a default goes - it doesn't work.

I'm running a fully-patched install of Ubuntu Feisty on a 32bit machine, so I wouldn't have thought this stuff should be happening? That is, I should hope my install's not horribly broken :P

this is really a distro problem, not a deluge problem. it is frustrating to hear that ubuntu didnt follow freedesktop.org specss, though. especially since debian does...not sure what happened there.

You're right--that is frustrating. Dunno who is maintaining the package, but perhaps they could make it recommend xdg-utils? I see gutsy tribe 4 is out, so I'm going to do a fresh install on my gutsy partition soon (tomorrow, probably). I'll make sure to look to see if xdg-utils is installed by default.

Ahh, Ok, well, thanks for the pointer on the URI problem.

Gutsy appears to recommend xdg-utils for Firefox and some other applications already, but I don't see any dependancies. Recommendations are too easy to miss, really. :(

in debian recommendations are now installed automatically. hopefully ubuntu will follow that route

That appears to be a much better idea (at least to me) so, hopefully indeed!

Oh, whilst I've got a thread - I tried-out the per-torrent upload limits in 0.5.4.1 last night. They don't appear to work - am I the only one? :?
