Windows interface is unseemly

Post by Splondir »

Basically, Deluge's interface looks out of place on Windows. Here's a pic highlighting some of the weird stuff.

I am not a technical guy, I just like Deluge and feel like this should be changed; no other torrent client looks like this.

Splondir, all the things you highlighted are supposed to be this way and all the other things you highly which are according to you aren't is just the design of deluge.
There are alternatives if you don't like the design!

If you create a bug ticket a few of those issues could be looked into (such as progress bar spacing), some are theme related but others I am not sure what the issue is as there is no explanation.

The theme change for 1.3.6 was a last minute decision by myself, just to make it look different and probably could do with tweaking. The code is in out git repo under DelugeStart Theme and is based upon ANewStart theme. One of my todo list items was to put up a wiki page on modify or change themes however there is forum post will a few details: http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =8&t=43637

Most of the devs solely use Linux so we need more input (and ideally solutions) from Windows users if issues are to be fixed.

This thread is a few months old but it's still on the front page so I wanna drop my two cents in here.

I only just today updated to 1.3.6 (since I ran into a bug in 1.3.5 that I couldn't reconcile) and of course I ran into the theme change and didn't like it. Now it's not that it was bad, it's that I typically just dislike change and there isn't a way to change the theme in Deluge to my knowledge without first installing external tools to modify deluge. I also don't like the shape of the buttons and all that but my biggest thing is that its just so BRIGHT. I would love (but don't expect this to happen) a simple little drop box or option somewhere that would let me switch between something like a basic white, light blue, dark blue etc theme list. They don't even have to be different except in colors. I operate my computer in a dark room so the bright blue (much like this forum) hurts my eyes.

Other than that I have no problems deluge since it's worked perfectly up till now.

Incidentally this torrent http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=view&tid=68521 is the one that was causing my issues, typically you just click download and a little popup box opens to ask me [cancel] or [add], but in this case the box just flashed and I couldn't add the torrent. The solution was to click add torrent, click on from URL, and paste the link in there, and then it worked. I have no idea WHY it worked only this way as this is the first time I encountered it, but the original bug persisted between both 1.3.5 and 1.3.6

I'm only providing that just in case it could possibly help you find a problem to fix, my real reason was the theme brightness.

I'd be willing to try to enable logging and trying to replicate the issue if necessary. Just reply to this post. I'll check back once a day for a week or so.

It's not difficult to change the theme all you need to do is put the gtk theme changing exe in Deluge folder and run it.
this torrent http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=view&tid=68521 is the one that was causing my issues,

Hi guys,

Don`t sure where to post this (search on the forum has brought me here) but I suppose I have fixed the longstanding 2093 ticket.

My working environment: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.

Before fix: either adding by clicking on a .torrent file in Windows Explorer or by drag-n-dropping .torrent file into Deluge there appeared message box stating that it can not open file with national (Russian in my case) characters - the national characters were replaced with OEM codepage bytes.

After fix: both click on the .torrent file in Windows Explorer or drag-n-drop it to Deluge successfully brings up Add Torrent dialog and everything works fine
The fix is in attachment to this post. Feel free to apply it.

I quite like the Theme of Deluge, it seems appropriate for a totally free open-source system. The idea is not to "sell the product" but to create something that is simple to use and carries out the function of a Torrent program. That's my analysis anyway.

I think it's because Deluge uses GTK. See my post on mimicking native Windows UI:
