Rebuilding state: checking one torrent at a time

I recently had to rebuild my deluge state (I think, maybe not necessary but I thought rebuilding it would be easier than fixing it).

I have added several hundred torrents, and now tried to "force re-check" and it seems like deluge is trying to re-check them all at the same time. This is slow because it's turned a problem that should be sequential disk access into random disk access.

Here's what my progress looks like:

Is this the intended behavior? Can I make deluge check just one at a time?

It seems like if I try to resume the torrents, then only as many torrents as I have in my download queue will check.

But I don't want to "resume" several hundred torrents and come back some time later to find I've started downloading hundreds of gigs for some random reason, like a large group of torrents are in a different directory.

Weird on my setup in such case I first pause all torrents (to avoid D/L) then select concerned and do a force-recheck. They all move under the "check" category (or similar, do not remember the exact name) but are done one by one
