deluge not registering new torrents sent from flexget

I have flexget set up from one machine to send torrents to a separate dedicated deluge machine and (like an idiot) i upgraded to ubuntu 16.04 without creating a snapshot first. Now when flexget sends a file over nothing happens in deluge. I can monitor the flexget logs where they say connecting and connection closed cleanly but for some reason i cant figure out how to see anything from the deluge logs.
Can anyone help me with either:
1. why its broken... i dont know python well or
2. how to better get into the deluge logs to see if something isnt coming through properly?
