High cpu usage bogging down my system

Hello, I am using the latest deluge 1.3.12 on arch Linux. I only have 50 torrents loaded and use pretty conservative settings: only 5 total active (2 downloading 5 seeding). But about a week ago I started seeing absurdly high cpu usage by deluge, to the point where now I cannot have it running for more than a few seconds before my system slows to a crawl. htop reports two instances of deluge -d both using 90-95% cpu. How should I go about troubleshooting this issue? Thank you.
