Abysmal upload speed

Post by angrykeyboarder »

My ISP advertises 6 MB/s download and 256Kbps upload speed.

I just wanted to clarify that before I continue...

I used Deluge for the first time yesterday to download a 4.6 GB file. It took about 2 hours. That was pretty typical (for other clients I've used) and I am happy with it.

However, I've been seeding the file ever since and my upload speeds are hovering around 62 Kbps. Needless to say that's a fraction of 256Kbps. I'm not uploading anything else but this single torrent.

Deluge reports my connection as healthy. My firewall is configured correctly. I use port 27356 for bittorrent. I configured Deluge to reflect that.

I'm running version 0.5.0 on Ubuntu 7.06.

So then..

Any ideas what my problem might be?

How can I increase my upload speed?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Somebody else had packaged it for Ubuntu and that's why I was using it.

Speaking of downloads...

What's wrong with this picture?

If your ISP gives you 6 mbps download speed and 256 kbps upload speed, your speeds measured in KB/s should be around 750 KB/s and 32 KB/s, respectively.

If this is the case, you're actually uploading at a higher speed than what you're paying for.

Yeah there are 8 bits in a byte. Your ISP measures your bandwidth in kilobits per second whereas Deluge is showing you kilobytes per second. To figure out your speed in kilobytes per second you have to divide by 8 to get the amount that Deluge uses. As was previously posted, that makes your upload 32 KB/s.
