[Solved] Confused about adding an already-downloaded torrent for seeding

Post by Paddy Landau »

From a previous computer installation, I have the torrent file (.torrent), and the downloaded files, which were in a folder.

I have placed:
  • The torrent file into the reference-copies folder (the one labelled "Copy of .torrent files to" in the Preferences).
  • The folder with the files into the completed folder (the one labelled "Move completed to" in the Preferences).
The instructions for how to add an already-completed torrent to Deluge say that I should pause the torrent and force recheck.

Well, I can't do that because Deluge doesn't know about the torrent. I've tried closing down Deluge and restarting, but that hasn't helped.

So, I am baffled. How do I go about seeding the files that I already have?

EDIT: I am using Deluge 1.3.14 on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit.

Thank you

You open the torrent file to add it. 'copy of torrent files to' is an autoadd function for what to do after adding a torrrent file.

In the add dialog point to the torrent data location.

Thank you, I got it now!

For my own future note, I'll specify exactly what I did.
  1. Put the torrent file into the "reference copies" folder (for consistency).
  2. Put the files into the "downloading" folder, not the "completed" folder.
  3. File > Add Torrent (or Ctrl+O or press the green plus); add the torrent in a paused state.
  4. Torrent (or right-click) > Force Re-check.
  5. Torrent (or right-click) > Move Storage > move to the "completed" folder (for consistency).
  6. Torrent > Resume (or press the green arrow).
