What mount should I choose for my setup?

Hello.
I am running compiled form source deluge 1.3.6 on xbian(debian wheezy based, XBMC instead of desktop. )/raspberry Pi. I use external MyBookLive to store the downloaded files and as a download location. Too often I would ger I/O errors. I have mounted the MyBookLive external drive via nfs. Please, tell me could expect I better performance with cifs, or just share any other tips that might help me bypass this problem
