Reflexions about Deluge development

Post by simonbcn »

Hi,
I wish my comments were taken as constructive criticism.
I've tried to use Deluge several times (several versions) but, finally, I have to desist by so bugs. Some of them are really bugs and others are due to limited documentation.
The installation, in my case, was deluged (with init scripts) in server and deluge-gtk in local connected remotely.
The configuration in this case is difficult: http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =7&t=35903
It lacks one wizard script to initial configuration of the daemon. Or, at least, a good documentation of config files.
But, this isn't the worst problem (to me) of Deluge, the worst is the instability in a server-client architecture and using plugins.
The installation from sources is wrong: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1389
Some plugins are also unstable: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1190, http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1180, http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1246, http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =7&t=35915, http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =9&t=35921 and so on....
It's different when deluge-gtk is executed without daemon, in local, the errors, I suppose, are less.
IMHO, I think the development team should focus its efforts on debugging errors and don't develop new features until the product is really stable.
Regards.

If you are using Ubuntu then simply use the PPA installation as directed on the download page: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/Inst ... nux/Ubuntu

You can use deluge-console to change configs settings for deluged.

The label plugins problem you have reported are either trivial or unrepeatable so other bugs take precedence.

You have to understand that there is a limited amount of time the devs can spend on adding features or fixing bugs and that also limits the time to write more documentation or your suggested setup wizard.
