Stupid Forum Email Tricks

Post by angrykeyboarder »

This is not to be confused with "Stupid Pet Tricks" :)

I'm a registered user on quite a few web forums (I'm guessing no less than 15). And several of those run vBulletin software. This of course is the same software that runs this forum.

I have never run into any problems registering on those forums, but today I ran into a big roadblock when I first attempted to register here.

When attempted to register, I got an error message about the MX record for my domain name. I found this very odd.

I registered with all of the above mentioned forums using this same domain name and have never had any problem.

This forum is the only one to have a problem with my domain name's MX record.

Therefore, I was forced to use an email address that's not part of my domain (In this case a Gmail account) to register.

Now get this...

A few minutes before I wrote what you are reading now, I went into the User Control Panel and successfully changed my address to...

You guessed it, the one I had intended to use in the first place!

The "problem" domain appears in below in my signature. It's the same domain as my website.

So then...

Why did I have to go through all this nonsense when I've never had this problem on the other web forums I'm on?

Curiously,
Scott

I don't know, but we're actually running phpBB, not vBulletin.

Oops.

I don't know what made me think of vBulletin.

But anyway, it doesn't matter.

I'm on plenty of forums running on phpBB as well. And I've only had this MX records issue here.

I don't understand why.
